A Simple Routine For Radiant Health

It's called oil pulling. This ancient Ayurvedic detox practice involves swishing (not gargling) around 1 TBSP of vegetable oil (coconut, sunflower, olive or sesame oil) in your mouth every morning upon waking up. Sounds simple right? It is! The hardest part is swirling the oil around for 15-20 minutes without swallowing a drop (but trust me, this gets easier). I've been oil pulling now for a couple months and I am quite astonished by the results. How does it work? Well, the oil itself acts as cleanser. When you put it in your mouth and work it around your teeth and gums it literally pulls out bacteria and other debris. Often times we don't think about this, but our mouth is a storage house for harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites like streptococcus or candida just to name a few. Germs like these can become toxic to our bodies and can lead to all kinds of conditions such as bad breath, cavities, gum swelling, migraines, and even allergies. Secondary conditions can also develop down the road such as arthritis, heart disease and other types of diseases. When I first started oil pulling the detoxification process began immediately. At first I noticed that my sinuses started to drain down the back of my throat which even lead to a chest cold, but I knew better than to stop. If you experience excessive mucus, a sore throat, head or chest cold, feel tired or nauseous, or even experience stiff or achy joints don't give up. This means that the detox process has begun which is awesome! The health benefits of oil pulling start with whiter teeth, fresher breath, pink gums and clearer skin. Just that right there is reason enough to begin. If you are consistent and dedicated with this daily practice it can treat and even cure many systemic conditions throughout the body. When I heard that this simple practice pulls heavy metals from the system, clears the skin, treats PMS symptoms and allergies I was all about it and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised and very pleased with this process. I going to even call it a very lovely part of my morning routine!

Ok, so here's my process:

1. Find yourself a high quality oil. Some sources say that organic cold-pressed oils are the best such as coconut oil or sesame oil. Organic, Raw, Unrefined and or cold-pressed are all important factors when considered which oil to use for oil pulling.

2. In the morning, before you eat or drink anything place 1 TBSP of the oil in your mouth and swish it around for 15-20 minutes (do not swallow even a drop of oil). *My friend tipped me off here and said that it's best to rinse your mouth out with water, floss and scrape your tongue before beginning. I think this is a great tip, but most importantly do NOT eat or drink anything before pulling.

3. After you are finished spit out the oil. The oil should be white in color. If it is yellow you have not pulled for long enough. Rinse out your mouth well and begin your day!

So simple and yet SO effective. Please note that when you begin you may experience a lot of mucus. It's ok to spit out the oil so that you can clear the mucus out of your mouth and throat. Then just start again until you've have successfully oil pulled for 15 to 20 minutes. It's amazing and I look forward to this morning process. I really do feel more radiant!
